Chinese New Year At midnight today, Chinese people around the world will welcome the new year - the Year of the Dragon (year 4710 by the Chinese calendar). This is a celebration that lasts for 15 days, culminating with the Lantern Festival. Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came and Buddha named a year after each. | Image credit: Fanghong via Wikimedia Commons |
